The students at MTHS have been working on the Lexus Eco Challenge.  They were given the challenge to find a solution to the harmful emissions that are released into the air.  They came up with the idea to make a filter to catch the mercury that is emitted into the air when coal is burned.  The filter would be placed in the coal stacks coming from the coal company.  The filter is composed of fiber glass cloth coated with cinnabar, as well as a stainless steel tube coated with cinnabar.  They used cinnabar because it will helps the materials from decaying.  The fiber glass will clean the mercury out of the air.  The students are trying to help change the air we breathe.  They are competing for scholarships to help with their college funding and trying to change the world with their college degrees.

Thanks to Austin Simms for making this video!!!  You are such a wonderful student leader and display a tremendous amount to school spirit!

Wayne Workman of Fayette County Park in Beckwith asked the students at MTHS to repaint some of the Christmas displays the park exhibits during Christmas.  Students painted the 101 Dalmation scene, Scooby Doo and the gang, and various Looney Tunes characters.

Mrs. Ellison's art class collaborated with Mr. Halsey's  and Mr. Eades' US History classes to create an American Flag Mosaic.  Mrs. Ellison got the idea from Pinterest and thought it would be a great way to show our Patriotism and our appreciation of our Veterans.  Students were encouraged to choose something that represented America such as political figures, monuments, landscapes, famous people and icons.
