The students at MTHS have been working on the Lexus Eco Challenge. They were given the challenge to find a solution to the harmful emissions that are released into the air. They came up with the idea to make a filter to catch the mercury that is emitted into the air when coal is burned. The filter would be placed in the coal stacks coming from the coal company. The filter is composed of fiber glass cloth coated with cinnabar, as well as a stainless steel tube coated with cinnabar. They used cinnabar because it will helps the materials from decaying. The fiber glass will clean the mercury out of the air. The students are trying to help change the air we breathe. They are competing for scholarships to help with their college funding and trying to change the world with their college degrees.
