Fayette County Schools is grateful for the constant assistance of the Fayette County Sheriff, his department, and the Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.  The continued assistance of these agencies, along with the administration of both Collins Middle School and Oak Hill High School brought swift action to the situation at OHHS today.  We will continue to have a strong law enforcement presence on our campuses and work daily with these agencies to assure a safe learning environment for our students.  Fayette County Schools is committed to take strong disciplinary and prosecute anyone involved with social media posts or threats of any kind concerning our school system.  Oak Hill High School and Collins Middle School will operate on a normal schedule on Tuesday, February 20, 2018.

ACT Test Prep

 

ACT Test Prep/English will be offered at Fayette Institute of Technology each Monday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for four weeks beginning Monday, September 14, 2015.

ACT Test Prep/Math will be offered at Fayette Institute of Technology each Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for four weeks beginning Tuesday, September 15, 2015.

Students can register the first night of class.

ACT Prep is a course that allows students to prepare for the ACT test.  These classes are designed for Juniors and Seniors who want to score well on their ACT test or to improve their ACT scores.

World Down Syndrome Day - March 21, 2015

This date was chosen to signify the 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome which leads to Down Syndrome.  Please join us on Friday, March 20 to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by rolling up your pants and showing off your loudest, craziest and most fun pair of matched or unmatched socks. You will probably get asked, “what’s up with the socks?”  That question will give you the opportunity to explain World Down Syndrome Day and that you are celebrating all the wonderful things about people with Down Syndrome while helping to advocate for individual rights, inclusion and respect.  Remember, everyone is different but we all deserve to be treated the same.

To date, the Fayette County Schools district has had 10 snow days missed from the required 180 day instructional calendar. Because all WV school systems are required to provide 180 days of student instruction, all Fayette County Schools will be open and provide instruction on the following dates:

  • Friday, March 25
  • Tuesday, March 29
  • Wednesday, March 30
  • Thursday, March 31 and
  • Friday, April 1.

Schools will be closed on Monday, March 28, but the central office will be open that day.

The Community Service Club will be sponsoring a "Penny War" starting Monday April 20.  This is a class competition.  Club members will be in the concession stand during both lunches to collect any change you would like to donate.  The money collected will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation.  At the end of the competition the class that has donated the most money will be declared the winner.  Two names will be drawn from the name jar and those two students will win a "goody" basket.

WV GEAR UP & FAFSA Workshop 2/12/15 (5:00 PM - 7:00 PM)

OHHS is excited to announce that we are part of a new state program to help students plan for college.  This program is called WV GEAR UP.  It is  a seven-year program running through 2021. To introduce the program, we are hosting a "welcome to GEAR UP" kick off event on Thursday, February 12 in the LMC at OHHS.  Senior students and their parents and family members are urged to attend and learn more about GEAR UP and college and career planning.  We are also providing a FAFSA completion workshop the same evening!  Parents will be able to use school computers, with assistance from counselors, to complete their FAFSA.  Food will be provided!

University of Charleston (date change!)

There has been a change of date for the school visit by University of Charleston.  The date has been changed from Tuesday, December 9 to Friday, December 12. UC will be here on that date to provide information and enroll students.  The application fee will be waived on this date.  If you would like to see the University of Charleston representative on December 12, you must see counselor Mrs. Wright before this date for a pass.

Glenville State College - Criminal Justice Summer Camp

Glenville State College department of Criminal Justice will be hosting its own summer camp from July 19-23.  The summer camp will focus on forensic and crime scene investigation, processing evidence, and cybercrime.  The cost of this camp is $400.00 per person and includes room and board.  All high school students as well as upcoming 9th grade students are welcome to apply. The application deadline is July 1st, 2015.

50th annual West Virginia Regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium

The 50th annual West Virginia Regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium will be held on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV, on April 10-11.  This STEM competition is sponsored by the United States Navy, Air Force, and Army.

FIT (Fayette Institute of Technology) will have ACT Test Prep classes starting in January.

Reimagining Time

 

This school year for the first five snow days, students will not have to make up these first five snow days. They will complete snow packets at home and turn them in within the first two days upon returning to school. Snow packets will be posted on the internet (click here or on the bottom link on the left) and hard copies will be available from the school upon request. Teachers will be available at the school on these reimagined time days to answer any questions about the curriculum provided in the snow packet.

State Program Cover Design Contest

 

During the 2016 – 2017 school year, the WVSSAC will print fourteen (14) programs for our championship events.  Students are encouraged to design covers for specific sports programs.  The cover may be either hand drawn or developed by a computer software program.
