The University of Kentucky School of Information Science is currently accepting applications from potential students who are interested in pursuing careers as school librarians. Students can begin the program in the summer, fall, or spring semester, and the School has set aside scholarship funds, to be awarded for the fall semester, in support of students seeking school library certification. Up to $1,000 may be awarded for an individual student.
Both the American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree and School Library Certification program can be completed entirely online in the same 36 credit hours. Ours is the only program in Kentucky to offer both the ALA-accredited degree and School Library Certification. Pursuing the degree and certification concurrently affords students the greatest breadth and depth as far as academic preparation is concerned and provides for a variety of opportunities following retirement from a school system.
Interested students can find more information about the program on our website: http://ci.uky.edu/sis/
We also host online information sessions throughout the year: https://ci.uky.edu/sis/libsci/infosession
