Wear Blue Day is April 1st and April 2
Join WVCAN and Child Advocacy Centers across the state on Monday, April 1st and Tuesday April 2, and wear blue for WV kids! April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and we're kicking it off to show our support. Wear blue to work, to school, or running errands to show support for preventing child abuse and neglect. Be sure to post your photo on social media, tag WVCAN, and use #WearBlueForWVKids. Let's unite and wear blue to advocate for great childhoods!

In October, Mrs. Denny and Mrs. Coffelt's health classes at Oak Hill High School planted red tulips to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. These tulips symbolize the beauty of living a drug-free life. This week, the tulips are beginning to bloom, and the students are delighted to see them grow.
Fayette County Schools are excited to announce Dean Ryan from Meadow Bridge High School WON the Regional Spelling Bee and will compete in The Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.🎉🎈🇺🇸

Kindergarten registration opens at midnight tonight (Friday March 22 at 12:00 AM).
A few things to remember:
*Your child must be 5 years old by July 1, 2024.
*You must register your child in the attendance zone you receive your mail. You can call the Fayette County Board of Education if you wish to have your child attend a school not in your attendance zone.
*There is an option for you inform us if you wish to apply for the Hope Scholarship.
*There is not a virtual option for children in grades K-2.

New River Intermediate students made bottle replicas of our board of education members and presented these to our board members during their LSIC presentation. We absolutely love the excitement of board member Joseph Groom.
Kara Shuff and Courtney Vargo of New River Primary Schools presented at the 2024 Annual WV Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference. They shared and modeled how to use 3 Act Math task and helped teachers learn how to create their own 3 Act Task.
These 3 Act Tasks are interactive problem solving activities to help young children developed math skills and build critical thinking skills.

Congratulations Fayette County Spelling Bee Winners First place Dean Ryan Meadow Bridge High School and 3rd place Raphael Carson Oak Hill Middle.
New River Primary celebrated National Read-Across America Day by celebrating Dr. Seuss Week with a week full of fun, but educational activities. Students from Oak Hill High School came to read different Dr. Seuss books to our students. In Art class, students practiced drawing and coloring different Dr. Seuss characters. Throughout the week, students and staff dressed up to highlight different Dr. Seuss books, such as The Cat in The Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Wacky Wednesday, The Lorax, and Dr. Seuss Sleep Book. New River Primary’s PTA also hosted their annual Dr. Seuss Night, which was another huge success. During this event, students and their loved ones were able to enjoy an evening of fun together through attending a Read-Aloud, completing arts and crafts, enjoyed face painting, and a drawing where students were able to take home a classic board game to play with their friends and families.

Fayette County Schools and Save the Children Federation, Inc. will be submitting a joint application under the West Virginia Department of Education’s Nita M. Lowery 21st Century Community Learning Center Program. If funded, this academic and enrichment program will offer afterschool and summer programming for students at New River Primary and New River Intermediate. To learn more about this application and program, or if you are interested in getting involved as an Advisory Council Member, please contact Jamie Sherman at Jsherman@savechildren.org.
