Jenny Totten from Future Generations University visited Ms. Denny’s health classes and Mr. Carpenter’s science classes to teach students how to tap maple trees.
Over the next several weeks, students will collect sap and boil it down to create delicious maple syrup — all while gaining hands-on experience with real-world STEM learning. Activities like this highlight the importance of local food production and give students a chance to see science in action beyond the classroom. #OAKstrong ❤️🖤

Benjamin Dean is a lifelong resident of Fayette County who has proudly called this community home his entire life. He attended Saints Peter and Paul through sixth grade before continuing his education at Oak Hill Middle School and Oak Hill High School. Family is an important part of Ben’s life. He lives with his parents, Shannon and Matthew, and has a sister, Sam, who is currently attending college. His grandmother lives next door, while his extended family stretches from West Virginia to New Jersey and Boston, with cousins scattered across several states.
Ben has always had a love for the outdoors and exploring the world around him. He is an animal lover—especially when it comes to dogs—and is the proud owner of three dogs and one cat. Curious by nature, Ben enjoys researching and learning about topics that spark his interest. Cooking is another passion of his, and it comes naturally to him; he’s always experimenting with his own recipes, which never disappoint.
Known for his kind heart and willingness to help others, Ben has built strong relationships with his close friends, including his girlfriend, Liz, as well as many acquaintances. Looking ahead, he plans to enter the workforce while pursuing college studies in Business and/or a field related to Nutrition. We can’t wait to see where his drive, creativity, and compassion take him next! ❤️🖤

On Thursday, February 12, your student will be bringing home a passive consent permission slip for the WVSLES, which will be given in the coming weeks. Printable versions of all survey questionnaires are available at https://wvde.us/data-schoolimprovement/education-data/west-virginia-school-learning-environment-surveys. Note that these are
printable renderings of the online questionnaires, and the questions may not appear as they do within the
online surveys themselves. The content of the questions will be the same. We will text a parent link to the survey, and also make one available on this website. Your input is so important to us!

From guiding students through academic planning and college decisions to offering support during life’s toughest moments, our counselors are steady advocates, problem-solvers, listeners, and champions for our Red Devils. Their dedication helps create a school environment where students feel seen, supported, and encouraged to succeed.
Please join us in thanking Mrs. Wolfe, Mr. Li, and Mrs. Dillon for the care, compassion, and hard work they bring to OHHS. We appreciate you this week — and all year long! ❤️🖤 #OAKstrong

It might be cold and snowy outside, but the sun is shining brightly on the future of this week's Senior Spotlight - the amazing ✨Jaycee Hall!✨
Jaycee Hall is a resilient and inspiring member of the Class of 2026 and a proud childhood cancer survivor whose strength and determination shine through everything she does.
After graduation, Jaycee plans to attend WVU Tech, where she will major in Psychology, driven by a desire to understand and support others through their own challenges.
Outside the classroom, she loves being outdoors and can often be found paddle boarding, whitewater rafting, or fishing, finding peace and joy in nature.
As her Civics teacher, Mrs. Toney, puts it, “Jaycee is a hard worker and doesn’t cut corners. She wants to do it the right way. She’s kind, intelligent, and has a quiet, but strong, character,” a sentiment that perfectly reflects Jaycee’s perseverance, character, and bright future.
